Our vision at Trinity is that we are becoming a church in which prayer infuses our congregational life and ministries. We believe prayer changes the church. It enforces the headship of Jesus Christ over his church, and intensifies the supernatural activity of the Holy Spirit. We believe prayer changes us individually. It focuses our thoughts and our motives such that our hearts are more attuned to the things God cares about. A prayer-saturated church is a church in which ministry is fueled by prayer, a church in which the status quo is up for grabs because we're saying to Jesus that he can dismantle everything HE did not initiate. We believe that as prayer activity increases the Holy Spirit increases faith in the lives of God's people and renews the church in love for God and sacrificial service in His name.
Intercessors: We are building a network of Prayer Intercessors, people of God who commit to a ministry of lifting up people and their needs, as well as our church and its ministries. Intecessors may be individuals with the spiritual gift of intercession, but they also may be anyone with the desire and intent to pray consistently. We have a growing e-mail list of prayer volunteers who are on call for prayer action as needs arise. To become an Intercessor contact Pastor White at 402-564-8547.
Prayer Chain: Trinity's Prayer Chain is an intercessory group with a long history of ministry in prayer for the church and for individuals. Prayer Chain members are contacted by phone in a "phone tree" arrangement and needs are thus brought to their attention. To join the Prayer Chain or to make a prayer request, contact Barb Sanders or the church office at 564-8547.
Prayer Groups: Prayer groups meet together specifically to pray. Sunday Morning Prayer Group: This group meets on Sunday mornings at 8:15 a.m. in the Prayer Room, to pray for our church and pastors, our worship services, classes for all age groups, our mission and ministries, as well as personal concerns and other issues. To participate, just show up. Prayer Shawl Ministry Group: Members of this group knit beautiful shawls to give away. As they work, they are in prayer for the whoever will be the recipient of the shawl they're working on. Each shawl has a small wooden cross knitted into the corner a reminder to the recipient that prayers have been said for him or her. To request a prayer shawl for someone you know, or to join this group, call Pat Ernst at 402-564-4553.
"30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World" For over two decades Christians around the world have joined together to pray for our world's Muslim neighbors during their 30 days of Ramadan. This is a worldwide call for Christians, during Ramadan, to make a prayerful effort to learn about, pray for and reach out to Muslim neighbors - across the street and around the world. Free prayer guides for adults and children are available each July at Grand Central (one per family please).
What is the gift of intercession?
The gift of intercession is the special empowerment of the Holy Spirit given to certain members of the body of Christ to pray for extended periods of time on a regular basis on behalf of and for others, seeing frequent and specific answers to their prayers, to a degree much greater than that expected of most Christians. All believers in Christ receive gifts of the Spirit for the work of the church and building up the community of faith. "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good." (1 Corinthians 12:7) All Christians are called to pray for others, and particularly for other believers. So any follower of Christ can be an intercessor. Those with this gift are fervent and persistent, and keep bringing matters before the Lord until they are resolved in some way.
